Popcorn Seasoning…..Part One!

Going along with yesterdays theme of homemade, last night we decided to make some popcorn as a snack while we watched the season premieres of some of our favorite shows. We have an air popper and we love the freshness of it, we add a little melted low sodium margarine and usually those flavor seasonings sprinkled on top, but they are really salty and not healthy so I decided to look up homemade versions and I found lots of great ones I want to share with you I found so many I am making this post a 2 parter!!! I will write part 2 next week. This week I am going to share very simple ones you can mix together with just a few ingredients. You can store the leftovers in small glass jars in your cupboard till the next time you make a warm bowl of popcorn. So make your popcorn, melt some margarine and sprinkle with one of these mixtures:

Herb Shake:oregano, basil and parsley

Ranch:1/4tsp onion powder, 1/4tsp dried dill weed, 1/8tsp garlic salt and 1/8 tsp ground pepper OR 1tbsp dried chives, 1 tbsp dried dill weed, 1tbsp dried parsley, 2tsp onion powder, 1tsp garlic salt, 3/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder

Taco Seasoning Mix

Sweet:cinnamon and brown sugar

Sweet Tex Mix: brown sugar and chili powder

Pizza:3tsp dried basil, 2tsp dried oregano, 1tsp dried italian seasoning, 1tsp crushed red pepper, 1 tsp garlic salt, 2/3 cup grated parmesan cheese( store any leftovers of this one in the refrigerator)

Sugar and Spice: 2tbsp dried rosemary, 2 tsp sea salt, 3 tsp butter flavor seasoning, 2 tsp red pepper, 1tsp black peppercorns, 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

Salt and Vinegar: spritz popcorn lightly with vinegar and sprinkle with salt

Chili: 2tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp cumin, 1tsp garlic salt

Dill: 1 package dry ranch dressing mix and dried dill weed

Dill Pickle: 1tbsp salt, 1tbsp dill weed, 1 tbsp dried parsley, 1tbsp dried chives, 1 1/2 tsp garlic salt

Smore: 2/3 cup chocolate malted milk powder, 1/3 cup graham cracker crumbs, 2tbsp instant nonfat milk powder, 2 tbsp icing sugar, 2 tbsp powdered vanilla

I hope you find one or two you would like to try, if you do let me know how it turned out and if you have any of your own that you like I would love for you to share your recipe with us! Next week I will share a few more that I have found, they are definitely worth waiting for( here is a sample:pink candy corn and caramel popcorn bake).
