100 Calorie Snack Ideas

I love to snack but since I started eating healthy I have had to cut out some foods that I used to snack on today I thought I would give you a list of some 100 calorie snack ideas!!! 

  • 1/2 c. Lowfat Yogurt (sprinkle with frozen blueberries, or with cinnamon, or nutmeg for variety)
  • Large Hard Boiled Egg
  • 1 Orange, peeled and divided into segments
  • 28 Grapes
  • 29 pistachios
  • 1 3/4 cups raspberries
  • 1 c. Blueberries
  • 1 c. Mango Chunks
  • 1 3/4 c. Cantaloupe Chunks
  • 1 3/4 c. Popcorn
  • 6 Dried Apricots
  • 3 small slices Dried Mango
  • 1 1/4 c. Blackberries
  • 2 Medium Kiwi’s Sliced
  • 15 strawberries dipped in 1/4 c. Cool whip (lite)
  • 1 Small Baked Potato w/ 1/2 c. Salsa & 2 Tbls Fat Free Sour Cream
  • 12 Quaker Quakes Cheddar Cheese Rice Snacks
  • 40 Rold Gold Classic Style Pretzel Sticks
  • 5 Nabisco Nilla Wafers
  • ½ cup low-fat cottage cheese with 5 strawberries
  • 3/4 c. Bran Cereal
  • ½ mini bagel with 1 ounce smoked salmon
  • 45 steamed edamame (green soybeans)
  • 12-15 natural almonds
  • 2 tablespoons each of mashed avocado and chopped tomatoes stuffed in 1⁄2 mini pita
  • 1 hard-boiled egg with 1 slice Melba toast
  • 1/2 cup of sugar-free gelatin, any flavor, and two tablespoons of low fat whipped topping.
  • 15 chocolate-covered raisins
  • 10 dry roasted cashews
  • 1/4 cup of fat-free Ranch dressing to 1 cup of mixed fresh veggies such as zucchini, red bell pepper, celery, carrot sticks and cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup of applesauce and 1 piece of toast cut into four sticks (for dunking, of course!)
  • 6 saltine crackers or 2 graham cracker squares with 2 teaspoons of peanut butter 
  • 1/2 cup of fat-free ice cream
  • Easy Parfait- 1/2 cup of low-fat pudding layered with two crumbled vanilla wafers and a dollop of low fat whipped topping to garnish the top.
  • 1 Medium apple cut into slices and spread with 2 teaspoons of peanut butter
  • a 2″ slice of Angel Food Cake
  • 1/2 c. Unsweetened Applesauce

These are all just guidelines, but all are healthy alternatives to candy, and chips. Here’s to eating healthy!!!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Quinoa Cookies

I wanted to try a healthy cookie recipe and I came across a recipe for these cookies on pinterest. I had lots of quinoa so I decided to try them. 


  • 2 cups cooked quinoa
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
  • 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats(if making these gf use gluten free oats)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened, shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Combine quinoa, peanut butter, maple syrup, salt, and oats in a large mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer on low/medium speed, combine ingredients well.
Tip: Allow the quinoa to cool before mixing it in.


3. Stir in coconut and chocolate chips.

4. Scoop and mold dough into round, tablespoon-sized cookies.

5. Place cookies on parchment-paper-lined baking sheets and bake for approximately 20 minutes, until bottoms are nicely browned.


6. Allow to cool completely before storing.

They turned out really well. Hope you all enjoy this healthy cookie recipe!


Some Changes to the Blog!

Hi everyone

First my apologies for being absent for awhile now. My husband and I have changed our lifestyle and are now eating healthier. That doesnt mean that we dont indulge in a “treat” every now and then but we have cut back. this means my addiction to baking has been scaled back, hence why I havent been posting much lately. And why there will be some changes to this blog. After pondering the future of the blog I have decided with some help from the readers to make a few small changes. I will be adding some healthier recipes, some tips and cooking tricks I have learned, some healthified recipes , simple switches to make some old recipes more healthier and of course we will keep some of the baking, we all deserve a treat now and then! I have learned over the last 6 months that you dont have to eliminate all foods from your diet in order to lose weight, you just need to learn portion control and by cutting out all treats and depriving yourself you are doomed to fail. I still eat sweats, and fatty foods…I just eat less of them. Healthy whole real food is beautiful and delicious and I will show you simple ways to add fresh food into your diet. I have lost over 65 pounds in the last 6 months by eating less and eating fresh( and of course exercise too) I want to experiment with new recipes and share my experiences with you. A whole new side to my addiction. I hope you will enjoy the new recipes and join me on this new adventure. I promise it will taste just as sweat! 

A Fail and a Triumph

I love to bake and I am pretty good at it but I must admit that sometimes I fail!!!! Its hard to admit but it does happen occasionally and today was one of those days. I had found a recipe a few weeks ago that I thought my husband would love. So I bought all the ingredients, had everything I needed and decided since today was Valentine’s day I would make them special for him today. I mixed all the ingredients together, rolled them in nice balls so they would all be uniform shape and put them in the heated oven and left them to bake for the alotted time. On my way back to the kitchen I was hit by the smell of something burning, I turned off the oven and opened the door and this is what I found…………..

What had I done wrong???? So I called my mom, told her the story and asked her advice. My mistake, I had used maragarine when the recipe called for butter! My mom’s advice was to clean up the mess, add more flour to my mixture and try again. I followed her wise advice and this is what I got on the second try……..

So what I learned today was….sometimes you are going to fail, sometimes its best to follow the directions and not try to do it your own way and sometimes you need your mom’s help!!! Thanks mom for saving my cookies!

The end result was great and Carl loved the White Chocolate Coconut Toffee Cookies!

So here is the recipe:

1 cup BUTTER

3/4 cup white sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 tsp vanilla

2 1/4 cup flour

1tsp baking soda

1 cup toffee bits

1 pkg white chocolate chips

3/4 cup shredded coconut


Preheat oven to 350. Cream butter and sugars together till smooth. Add vanilla and egg. Mix in flour and soda till combined. Stir in toffee buts, chocolate chips and coconut. Drop by the spoonful onto cookie sheet and bake 10-12 minutes, let cool on sheet for a few minutes before removing to wire rack to cool completely.

So today was both a fail and a triumph.

Superbowl Party Recipes-Day 5 Drinks!

Well we have made it through the week…its time to settle in, watch the big game, and relax with a good drink! Here are a couple recipes that are sure to please your football lovin’ crowd. Two of them are alcohol based and the other is a non alcoholic punch for those underage or kids at your party.



Ingredients Needed:

6 12 ounce bottles  light-flavored beer, such as Corona
1 12 ounce can  frozen limeade concentrate
Half a lime

Here are the mixing directions:

In a large pitcher, combine the frozen limeade concentrate and beer. Allow the foam to settle, then squeeze the lime half into the pitcher and stir. Pour into chilled glasses.


SUPERBOWL PUNCH(alcoholic version)


Here is what you mix together:

3 Liters Sprite

15oz Tequila

10 oz Hpnotiq Liqueur

3 oz Lemon Juice

2 cups frozen, sliced Strawberries

4 cups pineapple chunks

2 Liters Hawaiian Punch

10 oz Smirnoff Vodka

10 oz Melon Liqueur

5 oz Pineapple Juice

3 cups red grapes (seedless)

Place in Punch Bowl…Have Fun!





What you need:

1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen raspberries
Extra sugar for sugaring the rim of your glass


Here’s how to mix it:

Bring the cup of water to a boil. Add the sugar and stir constantly for one minute until sugar is thoroughly dissolved; remove from heat and add to a blender with raspberries. Puree until smooth. Add puree to 2-quart container with lemon juice and enough water to make 2 quarts. Chill before serving. Serve over ice in sugared glasses.

To sugar your glass, run one of your lemon rinds around the edge of the glass to moisten. Dip rim into dry sugar until coated to your liking.

Superbowl Party Recipes Continued -Game Day Desserts!

So today we are going to tackle 3 game day ready desserts. Its fun to make the dessert part of the game….everyone loves dessert! Here are 3 easy fun recipes that everyone will enjoy!

Football Cookies

For this recipe you will need:

1 roll (16.5 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated sugar cookies
1 container (1 lb) chocolate creamy ready-to-spread frosting
White decorating gel
Heat oven to 350°F. Freeze dough 30 minutes. Cut dough into 1/4-inch slices. With floured fingers, shape each dough slice to form football. On ungreased cookie sheets, place slices 2 inches apart. Bake 7 to 11 minutes or until set and golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 15 minutes. Spread frosting over cookies. With white decorating gel, draw laces on each football.
Fruity Brownie Pizza
For this recipes you will need:
1 package fudge brownie mix (8-inch square pan size)
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
3/4 cup pineapple tidbits with juice

1 small firm banana, sliced

1 medium kiwifruit, peeled and sliced
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1 ounce semisweet chocolate
1 tablespoon butter
Prepare brownie batter according to package directions. Spread onto a greased 12-in. pizza pan. Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean, cool completely. In a large bowl  beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth, spread over brownie crust. Drain pineapple, reserving juice. Toss banana slices with juice; drain well. Arrange the banana, kiwi, strawberries and pineapple over cream cheese layer; sprinkle with pecans.In a small microwave, melt chocolate and butter; stir until smooth. Drizzle over fruit. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Easy Football Whoopie Pies
Here is what you need:
chocolate cake mix
3 eggs
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vegtable oil
Butter-cream filling
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1-2 TB milk
Here are the Directions:
Preheat oven to 400.In a large bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, water and oil.Mix together for 2-3 minutes. On a parchment lined baking sheet, spoon batter in rounded mounds.  Use the back of the spoon to round out the batter into football shaped ovals. Bake for 8 minutes.  Cool completely.

For the Butter-cream:  Mix powdered sugar and butter in mixing bowl  Stir in vanilla and milk.  Beat until smooth and spreadable.Scoop into a pastry or ziploc bag with the end cut with a 1/2 inch opening.

Pipe butter-cream onto the bottom cookie wrong side up), then top with another cookie (right side up). Pipe football markings on the top ofthe whoopie pie.


Wow now I am hungry and cant wait till Sunday’s game but we have one important part of the meal to go……drinks!!! See you tomorrow for the final day of our Superbowl Party series!

Superbowl Party Main Dish Recipes

The big game is getting closer…..so far we have covered dips and appetizers, now its time to move on to the main dishes. I have 3 easy fun dishes that will definitely please your football loving fans!

Enchilada Lasagna



For this dish you will need:

2 lb hamburger

1 medium green pepper, chopped

1 medium onion, chopped

garlic salt

1 16-oz can chili beans

1 15 oz cans tomato sauce

1 small jar picante sauce

1 tsp ground cumin

2-3 cups shredded Mexican flavored cheese

8-10 10-inch tortillas


sour cream


Preheat oven to 350. Brown hamburg, green pepper, onion, garlic salt, salt. Drain grease. Add chili beans, tomato sauce and ground cumin. Simmer 15 minutes. Stir in half of the jar of picante sauce. Layer as follows in a 9×13 pan: Small amount of mixture on bottom of pan4-5 tortillas (loosely folded/rolled next to each other)1/2 hamburg mixture1 – 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese. Repeat layers Cover with foil. Bake 30 minutes. Remove foil. Bake 5 more minutes. Let set 5 minutes then serve with sour cream, lettuce and remaining picante sauce.


Homemade Crockpot  Chili

For this chili you will need:

1 lb lean ground beef

1 lb lean ground turkey

1 cup chopped medium yellow onion

1/2 chopped green bell pepper

2 cans kidney beans – rinsed

can tomato sauce

cans tomatoes – undrained (depending on how think you like it)

2 packages chili seasoning ( hot or mild depending on your preference)

1 tsp minced garlic

1 tsp cumin

1 tsp chili powder

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 Tbsp olive oil

shredded cheese (optional)

sour cream (optional)


Heat olive oil in non-stick skillet.Cook garlic, bell pepper and onions in oil until tender.Add ground beef and ground turkey.While meat is browning, open cans of beans., rinse well and dump into crockpot add tomatoes and tomato sauce, add chili seasonings, cumin, brown sugar and chili powder, stir well to combine.When meat is completely cooked, drain fat and add to beans. Stir till well combined,  let it cook in high for 4 hours in the crockpot. When done, add cheese and sour cream to garnish as desired.


Pizza Casserole

Ingredients needed for this recipe are:

1 bag egg noodles

1 large bottle tomato sauce

3 cups mozzarella cheese

1 1/2 lbs hamburger

1 pkg. pepperoni


Heat oven to 350. In skillet brown hamburger and then drain. Boil noodles till soft, drain. In 9×13 baking dish spread athin layer of sauce, top with about 1.2 of the noodles, half of the hamburger, then top with more sauce. Layer with noodles, cheese, then the rest of the hamburger. Top with more sauce, the remaining cheese and then in a single layer top with pepperoni. Cover the dish with tin foil and bake for 30 minutes, remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until bubbly and brown. Let it sit about 10 minutes to cool and set before serving.

Super Bowl Party Appetizers

So yesterday I shared 3 dip recipes for your Superbowl party. Today I am sharing with you 3 of my favorite appetizer recipes. These ones are sure to please the football loving guys at your party!

Bacon Wrapped Hotdogs

1 package hotdogs, cut into 3 pieces each

uncooked bacon slices

brown sugar

Wrap each piece if hotdog in bacon secure with toothpick and place in bottom of your slow cooker. Drizzle brown sugar on top and cover. Turn slow cooker on low and cook them for 5-6 hours or until bacon is cooked


Marinated Nacho Chicken Wing

3 lbs chicken wings

2/3 cup buttermilk

1 egg

2 tsp hot sauce

bag plain tortilla chips

1 1/2 tsp dried oregano

1 1/2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp cumin

Mix together buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce in large bowl, add wings and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate 1-24 hours. Crush tortilla chips finely to make about 2 cups, add oregano, chili powder and cumin. Remove wings from buttermilk mixture and press into crumb mixture to coat all over. Roast on a baking sheet with foil in 400 oven, turning once until crisp, about 45 minutes.


Potato Skins

6 medium baking potatoes

olive oil

6 slices bacon

grated cheddar cheese

sour cream

chopped green onions

Washed and pricked potatoes, bake in the oven for 1 hour at 350. While the potatoes are baking, cook the bacon, let cool, then crumble. Once the potatoes are cooked remove from oven and let cool until they are easy to handle, cut in half lengthwise.  Use a spoon to carefully scoop out the insides, reserving the scooped potatoes for another use, leaving about 1/4 of an inch of potato on the skin. Increase the heat of the oven to 450°F. Brush or rub oil all over the potato skins, outside and in. Sprinkle with salt. Place on a baking rack in a roasting pan (don’t use a cookie sheet, it will warp, use a roasting pan or broiler pan that can take the heat). Cook for 10 minutes on one side, then flip the skins over and cook for another 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool enough to handle. Arrange the potato skins skin-side down on the roasting pan or rack. Sprinkle the insides with  cheddar cheese, and crumbled bacon. Return to the oven. Broil for an additional 2 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly. Remove from oven. Use tongs to place skins on a serving plate.  Sprinkle with green onions and serve with sour cream.

Superbowl Party Foods Day 1-Dips

The Superbowl is the Sunday……woohooo! Actually I am not a fan of football, Carl is but he only ever watches the playoffs. But its a great excuse for a party and great food. This year we are having a pregame potluck. There are 5 main components to Superbowl food. You must have 1) a dip for snacking on during the game. You have to have 2)appetizers to your meal, then 3) the main meal. You of course have to have 4) a dessert and 5) drinks! SO today we are going to start with a dip. I am going to share 3 quick and easy dips you can make. Our favorite dip is a simple Nacho Dip. My friend Angie makes the best one. Her secret is homemade salsa…I stole the recipe from her, its really to die for! The second one is a simple Hot Bacon Dip and lastly a Chocolate Chip cookie Dip.

Nacho Dip

All you need for this dip is:

1 package cream cheese

3/4 cup mayo

2 cups salsa

1 chopped tomato

Shredded cheese( I use marble!)

Mix the cream cheese and mayo together, spread on the bottom of a serving dish, spread a layer of salsa, top with tomatoes, then cheese, cover and refrigerate for a few hours, serve with tortilla chips.


Hot Bacon Dip

All you need for this dip is:

1 package cream cheese

1 1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup cooked bacon crumbled

2 cups montery jack cheese, shredded

1 can green chilis

1 small can chopped jalapenos

1/2 cup chopped imitation crapmeat

Mix cream cheese and sour cream together till there are no lumps, then mix in all remaining ingredients. Place in small glass baking dish and bake @350 for 1 hour. Serve warm with baguettes, corn chips or crackers.


Chocolate Chip Cookie Dip

What you will need for this dip:

1/2 cup butter

1/3 cup brown sugar

1tsp vanilla extract

1 package cream cheese

1/2 cup icing sugar

1 cup mini chocolate chips

1/2 tub whip cream

In a small saucepan melt butter, add sugar and vanilla, stir constantly until the sugar dissolves. In a med bowl beat the cream cheese and icing sugar together with mixer until smooth. Stir in cooled butter mixture  until smooth again. Stir in 3/4 cup chocolate chips and then fold in whip cream. Pour into serving bowl and top with remaining chocolate chips. Refrigerate for 1 hour, remove from fridge 15 minutes before serving, Serve with any type of cookie you wish!

Oven Baked Hotdogs

I love hotdogs……….I know they arent the healthiest food in the world, but we dont eat them often, just once in awhile. Today we tried them made a little differently….baked in the oven and they were awesome!!!!! So I had to share the recipe with you.

Here is what you need:

Package of hotdogs

Hotdog buns



Can of chili

Grated Cheese

Onion, chopped into small pieces

This is what you do:

Preheat oven to 350, line a glass baking pan with aluminium foil(the size of the pan will depend on how many you are making, an 8×8 pan fits 4 and an 9×13 pan fits 8)

Line the insides of the buns with mayo…..I know you are saying why, but once you taste them you will know, it adds flavor to the bun, trust me!!! Next add relish and stuff them each with a dog.

Next top the dogs with chili. I used homemade chili I made last weekend in my crockpot and had frozen but you can use your favorite canned one too.

Sprinkle with grated cheese and top with chopped onions. Put as much or as little of these toppings on as you desire.

Loosely top with aluminium foil and bake in the oven for 45 minutes, I took the foil off with a couple minutes left and turned the oven to boil just to toast the top a little.  Now these hotdogs have to be eaten with a fork and knife, they are too messy to be eaten the normal hotdog way….but that is what makes them special!

You could even try these variations: add mustard or substitute the chili for salsa!
